Your potential new client is looking for a professional that has their best interests at heart. They want to know they are valued. Here are a couple of suggestions to ensure you are client-centric.

You are a seasoned legal professional.

But this may be the first time your potential new client has ever worked with a lawyer.

It’s intimidating.

To alleviate some client stress and ensure you win their business here are some questions they want to ask but may not.

How does this all work?

You need to provide clear, next steps about your process.  This includes things like:

  • When they can expect to hear from you

  • How much will this cost?

  • Your billing practices

  • Approximate timelines on resolution (best case / worst case scenarios)

When do I get updates on my case / file?

They want to know they are valued. The best way to do this is through communication.  Outline your communication practices, or ask them how frequently they would to receive updates.

Client-Centred

Your potential new client is looking for a professional that has their best interests at heart. Here are a couple of suggestions to ensure you are client-centric.

  1. Legal jargon and technical language may impress your colleagues, but it doesn’t do much to endear yourself to the average new client.

  2. Check your body language.  Are you constantly glancing at your phone or looking disinterested?  Your non-verbal cues are just as important as what you say and how you say it.

  3. Everyone wants to be heard.  Ask questions, refrain from cutting them off and simply listen.  Being heard is one of the best confidence builders and gets your relationship off to a great start.

  4. You be eager to win the person’s business but over-promising sets everyone up for a poor experience.  Be honest with what they can expect from you.

  5. Be genuine and authentic.  We’re all human and leaning on that commonality breaks down walls, builds trust and ultimately reduces anxiety from what may be a very stressful time in a person’s life / business.

Providing a client-centric experience takes commitment and perhaps even practice.  Easing your potential or new client’s concerns begins with a focus on communication.  Vexxit works with you to expand your reach through hyper-focused marketing initiatives.  It also creates opportunities to build your client base by promoting your expertise to the right audience for your area of practice.
